Founding of the Biology Club

18/08/2017

My age-old idea was finally into action in July 2017. I now start this Biology blog to bring in more networks and strengthen our school club too.

As the founder of my school's Biology Club, I take great delight in presenting the "inaugural day" of the club, created as an extension of the Science Club of the school.

The objective of the club is dual flanked, focusing:

  1.  Furthering student's understanding of Biology, getting them out of rote-learning, encouraging Olympiads (majorly IBO).
  2. Putting theoretical learning into practice by maintaining Biology related projects in school.

The students and Biology teachers interested in this were sought through an open notice in the school which was issued under Principal sir after I told him about this idea, just 2 weeks after I had returned from U.K. (IBO-2017). To my delight, a huge number of students and teachers signed up for the first introductory session, and all of them were greatly enthusiastic.

The foremost work was assigning the basic student committee hierarchy. It was mostly decided by the teachers based upon regular interactions in Biology class as well as the aptitude-based thinking and reasoning skills of the student. Also essential were the interpersonal skills which would help in enlarging the club membership in the later stages and conducting various activities with the students.

The final committee:

  • PRESIDENT- Stuti Khandwala (then in 11th grade, now in 12th)
  • SECRETARY- Mudita Goyal (then in 10th grade, now in 11th)
  • EXECUTIONARY: includes 6 students across grades 8 to 12
  • TEACHER SUPERVISOR: Mrs. Dimple Hada
  • Members: already 14 and still adding

Special mentions:

Mudita, our secretary, is an exceptional girl, who has several accolades including a Gold medal for India at the International Junior Science Olympiad and a candidate at the National Camp for Int'l Chemistry Olympiad. She has a natural liking for Biology. She is the prospective president of the club after I graduate next year.

Mrs. Dimple Hada is the most enthusiastic teacher and at a prime position in the Biology department of the school. She has been my Biology teacher since 10th grade (its been almost 2.5 years now with her). She has deeply supported me in all my endeavors, always. She will be supervising the entire working of the club.

There were another round of meetings for the setup of the whole thing. Space of 2 weeks was given to think up novel ways of fulfilling the objectives. Everyone swore to work with full dedication and devote whatever time they can for the benefit of the D.D.P.S. society.

 Thank you everybody!

Unfortunately, we had not received the permission to take pictures of the proceedings then. So we don't have photos of this time to publish.
